Sunday Afternoon Notes
Quote of the day….
“One of the great things about our armed forces is their professionalism and dignity. Many people who shared the anxiety of the hostages’ abduction will feel that selling their stories is somewhat undignified and falls below the very high standards we have come to expect from our servicemen and women.” (emphasis added)
Liam Fox, shadow defense secretary, quoted in Times (UK)
Volcanos and Wesleyan…..
One of the leading minds on volcanoes and how they work will speak on the topic Tuesday at Wesleyan University.
R. Stephen J. Sparks will be the guest lecturer on the mechanics of volcanoes. His lecture, “How Volcanoes Work,” will be presented at the Exley Science Center at 8 p.m……John Uarekamp, chairman of earth and environment sciences department at Wesleyan, said people like Sparks have moved the study of volcanoes (volcanology) forward.
He said Sparks helped move the study of volcanoes from a descriptive science to a quantitative science.
“We have learned much over the years,” Uraekamp said.
Wesleyan has always had professors who studied volcanoes, said Uraekamp, one of three current professors studying this topic.
He joked that even though there are no volcanoes near the university, they have always had vulcanologists, people who study volcanoes.Source: Middletown Press

And More Hot Air…..
Goracle (Al Gore, in case you missed it) Creates New Disease Single-Handedly:
From the primordial leftwing ooze, Bush Derangement Syndrome arose. Symptoms include accusing President Bush of lying the US into war in Iraq, in the teeth of a mountain of evidence to the contrary.
Then, there was Post Election Stress and Trauma Syndrome, with symptoms including lingering fear, relationship breakups and “communal sadness.”
Now, we have a new lefty affliction: It’s called “eco-anxiety:”
